I’m not sure how it happened exactly, or even when, but I do know that I’m immeasurably grateful that it did in fact happen. What you ask? Well, I’ll tell you…me securing the friendship of a charming and creative photographer in North Carolina, Sarah Der.
Sarah is one of my favorite photographers and when I say that, it means she fits right into the extremely teeny tiny category of “who I would use as my own wedding photographer” if I could do it all over again. She has a sensitive eye for beauty, an amazing gift for capturing honest and heartfelt moments, makes images that are timeless, and has a fantastic personality. No matter how gifted a photographer is, that’s only part of the equation, having a great personality is invaluable in someone who’s going to be at your side ALL wedding day long!
Can you tell how much I adore her?
Her husband Bryan is a gentle soul who plays the guitar when he’s not being brilliant getting his masters degree at UNC. Sarah is a cook book addict who can often be found poring over them planning out delicious meals. They have a regal cat, Toulouse who condescended to let me pet him. We started their lifestyle session in their home. I have a thing lately for shooting people in their own personal spaces. I feel like it automatically creates a comfortable mood, and there’s something so special about making portraits of people in an environment that is uniquely theirs. It’s no wonder that the ‘at home’ part of our session was my favorite. After that we took a stroll around their Chapel Hill neighborhood. Here’s some of what we came away with…
