As far as ‘the details’ go, this wedding was one of loveliest I’ve ever attended. From the dramatic and vibrant florals, to the grand elegance of the historic Cruz Building to the classy Carolina Herrara gown the bride wore with such grace…this was one of those weddings that was eye-candy from first to last. But if all of that was taken away and if it had just been Molly and Graeme facing each other in a quiet corner with nothing significant to mark it, this would stil have been one of the loveliest weddings I’ve ever been to. I say this because I’m quickly learning with each wedding I photograph that the true measure of a beautiful wedding is the honest and raw caring that a couple pour out on each other. The way Graeme looked at Molly as she smiled her way down the aisle towards him was a gift to all of us watching. His face told a story of such joy and gratefulness and gosh, if you’ve ever doubted in a wholehearted love, his face would have restored your faith.
Before the ceremony when we were at Molly’s mother home in Coconut Grove, she showed me Graeme’s wedding gift to her, a hand-bound (by him) book of film photographs titled “A Letter to Molly” that he made of their life together in their home in NYC. At the end, or maybe it was the beginning of it, there was a hand-written note that said simply, “Molly, you make me want to live forever.” And that my friends, is why I am so blessed and grateful to do what I do, because wedding stories like this deserve to be told.
Molly and Graeme, you were both a delight to photograph. Thank you for trusting me and giving me the chance to be a small part of your history as you live out this life together as husband and wife.
