11 years old

11 years ago, on Dec4th 1998, Shawn & I became the happy parents of our first child.  After months of anticipation and planning and dreaming, he was born – a squirmy, red 6 lb boy, with hobbit-feet, dark fuzzy hair all over his body, and a cry that could shatter glass.  Before he was even born, we had fallen in love with him.   We took him home eager and nervous – and desperately aware that we knew nothing about what it meant to be parents, yet determined to be the best that we could be.   It’s hard to fully comprehend but today, he is 11.  And though the days of him asking for ‘book’ (milk) and watching Toy-Story endlessly, and being taken on walks with his tricycle  have been replaced with skateboards, and shopping for his own clothes, and showers with the door locked behind him, he’s still My Neil and when I look at him today, I remember the little boy we brought home all those years ago, and I am awed.

Neil, I am unbelievably grateful that God entrusted us with your life.   You have brought your father and I such joy and we are proud and honored to call you our son.  Happy Birthday Hobbit-feet.  We love you.

Judy - Oh Shipra! He’s just such a sweet boy! I remember his sweet smile and his gentle heart. WOW! 11! Lexy’s 13, and will be a freshman next year and I can’t stand how little time I have left with her. Happy Birthday Neil!

Crystal.keilers@gmail.com - His expression is very “11 years old” :). (maybe even a little older;). Your words are precious. So true that you are entrusted with his life. I love your heart.
