simple things ~ (orlando children’s photographer)

Drove down the toll road twice yesterday, and both times stopped to pay my toll at the booth Humberto works at. A cheery older man with deep grooves around his mouth from all his smiling, Humberto chirps “have a nice day” each time and seems to mean it. I say “thank you” and he says “Wallcom” For some reason, his ‘Wallcom’ made my day. I’ve repeated the word to myself several times since then, trying to get the accent right, and I smile everytime I think of him. How many hours a day does he stand there in his little toll booth, taking dollars and dispensing quarters, and how many “wallcoms” does he share with his happy grin? It surprised me how such a simple gesture on his part has been such a blessing to me in the last two days. Isn’t it odd the things in life that move us?
The image below with the girl running out of the frame is another simple something that for some reason really moves me.
