the finishing touches

I haven’t blogged in awhile. In one way, that’s a good thing because I’ve been taking some time to slow down and enjoy summer as it dwindles down (as much as that’s possible for Florida anyway.) On the other hand, I’ve missed updating this little space I’ve carved out on the web. Tonight, I felt like posting something and almost instantly I knew I wanted to share a series of photographs that I find beautiful and compelling. It’s a tableau of the few minutes before Lauren, a bride from earlier this year, walked down the aisle. She was in a tiny bridal waiting room with her parents. Her mother stood and watched as her father practiced lifting the veil as he would be doing a few minutes later in the front of Brian, the groom. They laughed together, a little nervously, and then it was time to go. Lauren slipped the veil over her face and turned to look at herself in the mirror one last time before walking down the aisle. I see so many nuances of feeling in these images…nervousness, excitement, joy…and I get goosebumps. The ability to still and preserve fragments of time; this is the power and magic of photography.
